Harry Potter

Little Red Courgette by [livejournal.com profile] blamebrampton -- Harry/Draco

When this season’s purple courgettes are woefully thin, Draco Malfoy thinks it amounts to small beans. Next thing he knows, the Department of Standards is over-run with leeks, Brussels sprouts all sorts of legislative difficulties, and somebody appears to have put a roquette under Harry Potter. Can Draco seize a marrow victory? Or will his plans for peas be squashed?

This fic is from the [livejournal.com profile] hd_career_fair and is hilarious. This author writes a wonderful Draco.

Supernatural/J2

In From the Cold by [livejournal.com profile] ladyjanelly -- Jared/Jensen AU

Jared works in a free-clinic and Jensen is homeless. This is wonderful h/c and superbly written.

I have some variety for you today, which reflects just how random my thinking is right now.

Harry Potter

On the Last Day of Our World by Sansa -- Harry/Draco

Long, plotty, angtsy romance. As soon as I started reading this I knew I'd read it before and forgot all about it. It was a pleasure to read again.

Doctor Who

The Final Countdown -- Daleks rock out on YouTube

Just stupid and funny. It's vids like this that make me thankful for YouTube.

Supernatural

Oath by [livejournal.com profile] elementalv -- Dean/Castiel

It’s not that Castiel particularly wants to have sex.

Bert & Ernie Are Gay (Not On My Watch) by [livejournal.com profile] justabi -- Dean/Castiel

If Dean has to make like Bert and Ernie to keep this one goddamn promise to a guy who full on rebelled against God for him, well, then fuck it. Bring on the Muppet sex.

Twitterpated by [livejournal.com profile] rain_dances -- Dean/Castiel

Castiel insists that Dean and Sam start using twitter as a means of communication (seriously).

we got some work to do now by [livejournal.com profile] atimi -- Many pairings.

SPN/Scooby Doo crossover; rated NC-17; a multitude of pairings (but no bestiality. promise.)

Those last two are pure crack and absolutely must be read by everyone. Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] kitty_poker1 for linking me up.

And now a request! Does anyone have any more recs for Dean/Castiel or Sam/Castiel or Sam/Dean where they are NOT brothers, or at the very least brothers that grew up totally apart. Must be very well written because my time is limited and I only want to read the best. Boy, I really sound like a snob! But seriously, these are my first steps into this fandom and I want them to be worth it.

What You Do With Your Life, A.H.K.B.C.B. (After the Hero Kills the Batshit Crazy Bastard) by [livejournal.com profile] oldenuf2nb

This fic seriously made me smile. It sweet and sexy with Draco just how I like him, eccentric and a little bit camp. Highly reccommended. Eight parts:

Part 1
Part 2
Part 3
Part 4
Part 5
Part 6
Part 7
Part 8

Vale Sanare by [livejournal.com profile] rurounihime -- Harry/Draco

Draco suffers from seizures and Harry helps him.

Father of the Bride by [livejournal.com profile] novenmbersnow -- Harry/Draco

Harry's little girl is getting married, and the identity of her chosen suitor is about to open up a world of complications—for better and for worse.

For the Public Good by [livejournal.com profile] blamebrampton -- Harry/Draco

Harry is loaned to the Muggle government to assist relations between the two governments after the London bombings. When his counterpart in the Communications team comes to him with evidence of a plot to expose wizarding Britain, he is all ears. And only in part because the messenger has such a familiar voice.

Dear [livejournal.com profile] literati, ~hugs and smooches~, love from Suki.

New year, new layout. I'm going with a Nero banner this time. I think my infactuation with him will last as long as the game does, so best give him banner time while the urge is hot.

As years went, 2008 was okay. Some of it was fantabudastic, some of it made me wish I'd been born anyone but me and some of it was just fine.

I passed my OU course with a distinction, wrote two original novels, attended [livejournal.com profile] writerconuk, found several new fandoms, read a shit-load of books, comics, magazines and fanfic, got to know my family a little more ...

No wonder I'm exhausted!

My favourite books of 2008 were Anthony Horowitz's Alex Rider books, Mark Haddon's A Spot of Bother and The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, and The House at Riverton by Kate Morton.

My favourite film was Iron Man. Not a good year for films. I actually found The Dark Knight to be somewhat of a disappointment. I feel a chick-flick phase approaching.

My fabourite TV shows were Torchwood, Doctor Who, Merlin and The Apprentice (When is that back on? I need some Sugar).

My favourite fandom was Torchwood (Jack/Ianto).

My favourite fics were Time Enough (Jack/Ianto) by [livejournal.com profile] veronicaluv, It Didn't Start Like This (Jack/Ianto) by [livejournal.com profile] szm, Take a Sad Song and Make it Better (Harry/Draco) by [livejournal.com profile] femmequixotic and Drop Dead Gorgeous (Harry/Draco) by Mistful.

My favourite dog was Indy, my favourite socks the red, stripy, fluffy ones, my favourite PJs the purple Eeyore with checked bottoms, favourite slippers the red slip-ons with pom poms. Fav perfume J-Lo Glow, fav body cream Molton Brown Yuan Zhi, fav people YOU GUYS!!!

Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

Firstly, thank you to [livejournal.com profile] writan_bur for my Christmas card. My first! It's lovely and you're a darling. MWAH!

My collector's edition of The Tales of Beedle the Bard arrived yesterday. Oh my god, it's absolutely beautiful and worth every penny I spent on it. Merry Christmas, me. I shall take a couple of pictures and post them when I have more time, because the pictures on Amazon just don't do it any justice at all.

Work was boring today, apart from an impromptu experiment to find out what would happen if someone were to slip on a banana skin. I dropped said skin and D took a flying leap at it, nearly broke his neck and left an icky skid mark on the office carpet which is slowly turning brown and which we shall both deny all knowledge of.

Indy stole a giant Galaxy bar from my handbag in the early hours of this morning and ate the lot. Grandad kept a close eye on him while I was at work and he's fine, no ill effects. I have explained to my naughty doggy, in a soothing tone and while tickling his ears, that next time he sticks his nose in my handbag, he'll find a yummy mousetrap.

Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today! Adopt one today!

I have more eggies, but not so much as a crack in them! Helps!
suki_blue: <lj user=suki_blue> (Christmas! Hogwarts)
[livejournal.com profile] hd_holidays starts today. Big yays. The first fic to be posted is Master Work.

Harry's eighth-year at Hogwarts is going about as well as all the others. Someone is out to get him, Aurors keep questioning him about the final battle and, worst of all, Draco is determined to repay his life debt to Harry.

I am so very particular about HD fic these days. I've gone way past the I'LL READ IT ALL!! phase and settled stubbornly into the Only the Best Will Do stage. I don't rec this stuff lightly. This is a good fic, a nice long read with great characterisation and an interesting storyline. But the best part is the humour. It's funny all the way through with Draco exactly as I like him, sarcastic, slightly camp, completely capable of causing a scene without realising it, and witty. Great stuff.

And while I'm here: Whoops, Mr Barrowman. What's that cliche about making a mountain out of a troll hill?

Edit: John has now apologised Bad timing, honey, that was all. I for one squee at the thought of his fruit and nuts.

RECS!

suki_blue: <lj user=suki_blue> (Wonder Woman Grr by Ohayobunnies)
More Than Flesh and Bone by [livejournal.com profile] misslucyjane -- Jacl/Ianto

Everyone has one night that changed their lives forever. Ianto's got a few.

Pre-series what-if-Ianto-and-Jack-met-years-before AU. Guh and Auw. I'm not big on AU's in this fandom (mainly because there's so much that can be done with canon), but this is going down as a favourite fic ever.

Taiga by [livejournal.com profile] lower_case_me Jack/Ianto

Set shortly after Countrycide. Jack takes Ianto on another outing. To Russia.

Understated and very sweet without the sap. This appeals to me because I wish a beautiful man like Jack Harkness would come and take me away from all this and show me something so wonderful that everything else bled away.

Rising from the Ashes (Anonymous poster at [livejournal.com profile] hd_inspired) -- Harry/Draco

Draco Malfoy never knew that he was, for a short time, Master of the Elder Wand. He also never expected to be saved from a fate worse than death by Harry Potter, of all people. But when “The Chosen One” chooses not to save his father, Draco sets out on a course to either reclaim the wand or make Potter pay, or both.

Beautifully written, tender but keeping it real. And the surprisingly hot image of Draco in dungarees will stay with me for the rest of my life.

And while I'm here, what's the best community for Doctor Who icons? I need to stock up.
suki_blue: <lj user=suki_blue> (Drarry new HBP by Literati)
Firstly, you've all seen the new Half-Blood Prince Promo Pics, yes? Fourth one down: check out the fight or fuck expressions. Secondly, [livejournal.com profile] literati made me some icons from the pics, which are just beautiful, so thank you so much, honey!! ~squishes~

Also, here's a post containing a new location shot of Jack and Ianto. I'm probably way more excited about this than I should be but I'm so high on all the visuals today I feel like combusting.

And now for some recs:

Walking the Line by Silent Auror -- Harry/Draco

Sixth year is over and Draco Malfoy is on the run. The war is on and an unwanted assignment is forced upon him by the only people he trusts - and a one-time arch-enemy just may be out to kill him.

I meant to rec this yonks ago. Plotty, epic, full of angst and lust, this one is a fandom must.

And Then the Heroes Came Along by [livejournal.com profile] roga Stargate: Atlantis/DC Comics Crossover; Gen, (but McSheppy if you squint.)

You would think that grown men would be able to interact with Superman and Batman without turning into thirteen-year-old girls. You would be wrong.

Frickin' hilarious! You have to read this. Please believe me. That's all I'm saying.

Title: Tangles
Author: [livejournal.com profile] suki_blue
Rating: NC-17
Pairing: Harry/Draco, Harry/Ginny, Ron/Hermione
Summary: Harry's marriage is in a mess and so is his head. Not epilogue compliant.
Warnings:Some relatively graphic het, and death (not Harry or Draco)

Many thanks to my Beta, [livejournal.com profile] amejisuto who helped me find my ending and the whole point of the fic, and to [livejournal.com profile] literati for reading it through and reassuring me I hadn't just written a massive pile of dog's dollop.

I don’t remind you of a penguin, do I? )
suki_blue: <lj user=suki_blue> (HP Lucius pimp by das_mervin)
I have been a bad Suki and neglecting my rec posts. No more!

You all simply must read the following:

Never a Breath You Can Afford to Waste by [livejournal.com profile] owens_mom -- Harry/Draco

Harry’s with Neville for all the wrong reasons, but he just wants to coast through his carefree summer days after vanquishing Voldemort. An intriguing run in with an old rival sends his world where else? Upside down.

I adore this fic, and a whole week after reading it I still can't stop thinking about Draco's little clay balls. H/C at its best.

Are You There, God? It's Me, Draco by [livejournal.com profile] floweringjudas -- Harry/Draco

Harry and Draco are straight Aurors. Then they're gay teachers. It makes sense in context.

Fun, fun, fun, and Draco is just how I like him -- totally bonkers.

Attrition by Lazuli -- Jack/Ianto

Jack's back. Set post S1

Remember the Spander classic Repossession? Remember the angst that tore out our hearts and spat in our chests? Same author, slightly less angst, but enough for many wibbles. Fantastic writing, even if I don't entirely agree with some of Ianto's motives in this. All characters written splendidly.

Fic Pimps!

suki_blue: <lj user=suki_blue> (HP Lucius pimp by das_mervin)
Two different fandoms this time. Firstly, HP. Recs given to me, as usual, by the lovely [livejournal.com profile] literati because she absolutely has my H/D tastes nailed on the head.

Beneath Boundless Skies -- From the HD World Cup Team EWE

The end of one journey is the start of another. No matter how hard it is, nor how long it takes you to make the first step. I adored this so much. I would love to think this was what actually happened after the end of DH.

DIY Messiah -- From the HD World Cup Team Epilogue

Harry stopped hating Draco Malfoy on Bring Your Kids to Work Day. Cute and funny and I totally understand why Harry keeps staring at Draco's naked feet. Ahem.

And now, from the Marvel fandom. Rec from [livejournal.com profile] amejistuo because she's a corrupter and she forced me at porn-point to read Iron Man slash.

Full Body Workout -- by [livejournal.com profile] crimsonquills Steve Rogers/Tony Stark (Captain America/Iron Man)

Hank has a lab accident. Steve and Tony bear bare bear the consequences. HOT! Even if you're not a fan of the pairing or have no clue about Marvel, it's still HOT!
suki_blue: <lj user=suki_blue> (HP Lucius pimp by das_mervin)
Take a Sad Song (And Make it Better) -- from the HD World Cup, the Epilogue Team

The last thing Harry wants is to lose his kids.

Post DH, NC-17, Epilogue compliant, long enough to sink your teeth into. Beautifully written, wonderfully characterised. This is the best HD fic I've seen for ages, and certainly the most original. My only complaint is that it ended, although it's probably best it did otherwise I wouldn't have gone to work tomorrow. I laughed, I wibbled, I crumbled at the feet of a fantastic story.
suki_blue: <lj user=suki_blue> (HP Lucius pimp by das_mervin)
Love Lies Bleeding by [livejournal.com profile] oldenuf2nb

If you found yourself presented with the opportunity to watch the one you love without them knowing, could you resist the temptation?

This is a short H/D fic written from Ginny's POV. It's beautifully written and wonderfully original, and it makes a fantastic change from all the Ginny-bashing we see. It is somewhat of a dark fic, so do read the author's warnings; but rest assured I wouldn't rec it unless it had plenty of happyhappyhappy H/D.

The fic was rec'd to me by one of H/D partners in crime, [livejournal.com profile] literati. She really is not a Ginny fan, whereas I don't mind her. Weirdly, this fic worked for both of us.
suki_blue: <lj user=suki_blue> (HP Lucius pimp by das_mervin)
I've got two oldies and then a community pimp for you today.

Firstly, Per Solum Lacuna - by Words Alone -- A set of enchanted journals bring solace to two very unlikely lost souls. This is a wizarding twist on the old fashioned art of correspondence. What will happen when the mystery writers finally discover the identity of their counterpart?

Long, plotty and great characterisations. This one is a keeper, but make sure you can spare the time to read it as it comes in at over 500,000 words.

Next is Draco in Darkness by Debbie -- Following an accident in his seventh year, Draco loses his eyesight. At first he completely withdraws, avoiding any hint of pity, as well as any assistance; he is determined to succeed on his own. But after Harry elbows his way into Draco's dark world, both boys find themselves in a strange new friendship, and they each learn new ways to see each other … and themselves.

Hurt/Comfort anyone? Come get it. Touching, nice imagery and an obvious love for the characters.

Lastly I want to pimp [livejournal.com profile] hd_worldcup. It's being hosted on Insane Journal, but you can watch the LJ version for dates and admin, and friend the RSS Feed to get updated on LJ when fics are posted at IJ. Pick a team, cheer them on, vote for your fav fics. The catch? It’s all anonymous; you won’t know who wrote what. Fantastic fandom fun. I’m supporting Team EWE (Epilogue, What Epilogue?) How about you?

I've been meaning to do this for days

Coda to an Epilogue: Twenty Years Later, Or The Kids Are All Right by Maya

This is gen, Harry and Draco friendship specifically, and it's absolutely hilarious. Draco and Harry end up in the sewers beneath Durmstrang looking for their missing children, James and Albus, and Scorpius. All the characters are so well crafted and the children are a hoot, especially Scorpius who is just like his father but not. This is the same author who is writing the brilliant H/D Drop Dead Gorgeous (WIP) and the side story The Way We Get By (Complete) which you should also catch if you can as it's one of the best H/D's out there.

This latest fic is in three parts, is complete and actually makes the official epilogue bearable. I can't recommend it enough.
suki_blue: <lj user=suki_blue> (HP Lucius pimp by das_mervin)
Here I go again. I just appreciate recs so much that I simply must pass them on. The HP fandom is so huge, it's wonderful to be given stepping stones through it.

Firstly, [livejournal.com profile] entrenous88 has written an H/D drabble - requested by me - set during Half-Blood Prince. Watched. Entre is well known for her Spander, and her venture into writing HP is a very new thing, so I personally think it would be wonderful to go give her some love and maybe encourage her to write more in the process.

Secondly, this next fic was rec'd to me by [livejournal.com profile] literati in response to my last post, and like everything she's rec'd to me so far, it's fucking awesome. ~hugs lit~ The World of the Living. This is an incredible H/D set from Luna's POV. It's beautifully crafted and the characterisation is spot on. It's not a long fic, spread over just two parts, but it's a fantastic example of how much talent there is in the HP fandom.

On a side note, I picked up the new HP & OotP game for my PSP yesterday. It's hard. I completed GoF in about two days on the PSP and two weeks on the DS, but this? It's going to take months, baby.
suki_blue: <lj user=suki_blue> (HP Lucius pimp by das_mervin)
Indy and I just discovered a new game. I roll his miniature squeaky football at him and he bats it back with his tail. So cute! He was also very cute yesterday when I opened the front door, forgetting to put him behind the dog gate, and he literally leaped passed me and launched himself bodily at two unsuspecting Christians who had come to talk about the bible - they looked quite relieved when I said I wasn't really interested, as I barely held back my great big, black, barking hound from hell. Heeeeeeeee! I love my dog.

Anyway, pimp time. Here's a couple more H/D recs to corrupt you all with:

Second Chances - Both boys are now in their thirties. Harry is a teacher at Hogwarts and Draco has three children from an arranged and unhappy marriage. They meet up when Draco's children go off to Hogwarts and Harry gets involved when one Malfoy child shows some disturbing signs. This fic mixes up two of my fav genres in the HP fandom: Post-Hogwarts and Kid!fic. It's a lovely, sweet story with a nice bit of angst thrown in. It's not particularly explicit, preferring to concentrate on the plot, which is just how I like it. My only complaint is that I felt like I wanted to bang Draco's and Harry's heads together at one point, but that just shows how much I got into it.

The Depths of Winter - Four years after getting out of Hogwarts, Harry lives alone in the Muggle world. He has turned his back on the magical world – until one day, when Draco Malfoy gets into a car crash before Harry’s eyes and ends up paralysed in a wheelchair. Post-Hoggy and H/C, I love this fic to itty bitty pieces. There's not much I can say about it really, other than, if you love H/C, you'll love this. Believable characterisation, mucho sweetness and a nice bit of mystery that, although is as transparent as a window, is somehow very intriguingly and quite exciting. A must-read.

I think that's all for now!

BOO!

Re this week's Doctor Who: I knew it!!! Just before he said it, I knew it!

Just watched Hot Fuzz. Verdict: Fucking classic. The Swan! Bwahahahaha!

Went out for the day yesterday to have lunch with [livejournal.com profile] big_balls and a friend to look at friend's wedding photos and coo over her gorgeous little boy. BB and I went for a small shop afterwards. I bought two pairs or sparkley shoes - you know, those slipper style, slip-on sequin type sandals. One in gold and one in silver. Four quid each! Bargainous.

Finished reading another excellent H/D fic yesterday. Starts With a Spin - It started with the spin of a bottle, and now Harry and Draco have gotten themselves so far into their own game there's almost no way out again. Except to keep playing. NC-17. I do love 'party game' fics, and I love them even more when the story moves on and we get romance and plot. This is a long fic and does exactly that. Brilliant characterisation all round.

Wasn't there a Spander fic where Spike and Xander play Twister? Or did I dream that? Anyone got a link?

Now, if you'll all excuse me, I'm about to go start something a little special for Grief Counseling. Ahem. ~runs away~
suki_blue: <lj user=suki_blue> (HP Lucius pimp by das_mervin)
It seems that the recent rumours of YouTube-style witch hunts and purging were a hoax, so I've decided to unclench and unlock all my posts. Business as usual. However, I'm still a little unnerved, so I may still may lock the odd post here and there and go into another total lockdown if things look to turn nasty. If you haven't already commented to me to be added as a friend so that you may still view these posts, feel free to do so here. ~huggles~

On to the pimping. I've been feeling rather poorly recently, so I've had plenty of time for reading. I feel the need to pass on the following recs (ALL HP - All Drarry):

Big Dick, Come Quick by Calanthe - Now, I know what you're gonna say, but this fic started out as a PWP and morphed into a long and gorgeous romance. Draco’s got a theory. About sex. And after much searching for the right candidate, it appears that only Harry Potter, his life long enemy, can help him test it out. Post Hogwarts. Beautiful feelings and plenty of comedy. Hot as fuck.

Dancing Queen by Maya - Dudley in leather takes Harry to a gay club. Guess who he meets? Funny and cute and Draco in glitter. Don't miss it.

Gold Tinted Spectacles by Beren - Harry is about to enter his seventh year, and things are not quite what he expected. He is no longer the angry boy who watched his world fall apart at the end of his fifth year, but neither has he completely found his place yet. He is looking for something, and to his confusion it seems to have something to do with Draco Malfoy. Plenty of fluff and feelings, oh my, teh cute. Long.

The Goodness of their Hearts by Taratext - Post Hogwarts - Malfoy Security Inc. is hired when Chudley Cannons' star Seeker Harry Potter starts receiving disturbing letters. I *adore* future fics and this one hits my the spot. Romance, mystery, comedy.

Paying the Piper by Sansa - AU, Non-magic. One small town, two murders and countless suspects. Police Chief, Severus Snape, and his side-kick Draco Malfoy must discover the truth behind the crimes. But new kid in town, Harry Potter, turns out to be the biggest mystery of all. I saw this rec'd just today and simply had to take a peek. I was totally sucked into it. It's an honest-to-god murder mystery that really does keep you guessing right up until the end. I was positively vibrating in my chair at one point it was so damn exciting! Lovely H/D and the friendships with Snape are brilliant. Honestly, you may think the premise is a little odd, but you'd be silly to not give it a go.

There, I think that's it for now. The recs will be added to those on my website at a later date.

Byeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
