HD Rec + JB News
Dec. 1st, 2008 04:38 pmHarry's eighth-year at Hogwarts is going about as well as all the others. Someone is out to get him, Aurors keep questioning him about the final battle and, worst of all, Draco is determined to repay his life debt to Harry.
I am so very particular about HD fic these days. I've gone way past the I'LL READ IT ALL!! phase and settled stubbornly into the Only the Best Will Do stage. I don't rec this stuff lightly. This is a good fic, a nice long read with great characterisation and an interesting storyline. But the best part is the humour. It's funny all the way through with Draco exactly as I like him, sarcastic, slightly camp, completely capable of causing a scene without realising it, and witty. Great stuff.
And while I'm here: Whoops, Mr Barrowman. What's that cliche about making a mountain out of a troll hill?
Edit: John has now apologised Bad timing, honey, that was all. I for one squee at the thought of his fruit and nuts.

Date: 2008-12-01 05:36 pm (UTC)Poor John! I really feel for him. I blame Russel Brand for this, totally. I HATE him. As much that that whole Brand/Ross thing was taken out of proportion, I still think it was unconscionably rude and not something I would have wanted to hear. I hate that type of thing.
John has just issued an apology. I've updated my post with the link.
As long as he caresses his bum at the RAH, I'll be happy, lol.

Date: 2008-12-01 07:44 pm (UTC)Yep, I blame Russell Brand, who wasn't playful and amusing but lewd and rude. Ross wasn't much better, egging him on. It was blown up out of all proportion, but I suspect it was just the last straw for audiences who've got a bit tired of tasteless 'shock' TV and radio.
That's our John - no risking any future jobs at the Beeb! *g* It was a very tiny thing (not that thing!), so I expect all will be forgiven and it'll be business as usual tomorrow.

Date: 2008-12-01 07:51 pm (UTC)Totally agree. It was the last staw. I can't stand those shows. They make me feel incredibly uncomfortable.

LMAO! No, I doubt it was that small. Hee! I'm sure it'll blow over and the whole thing will turn into a nice piece of free publicity for our John.

Date: 2008-12-01 05:35 pm (UTC)People's reaction to this reminds me of a "scandal" we had here a few years back when a (commercial) radio station promised a prize of some kind to a couple that would come to their studio and have sex during a live broadcast. And this was done during a morning show. There was a nation wide outrage of that and people were demanding that the whole station should be forced to end their business.
It's funny to see how outraged people who didn't even hear the show are. There's no proof that he really did anything. They could have well just said that he did. And so what if he did "expose" himself. No one, except possibly the presenters, saw a thing. It seems some of the people who commented on the subject want to return to the dark ages...
Sorry for rambling *g*

Date: 2008-12-01 06:30 pm (UTC)I can't believe he apologized because one person complained. The rest of us just want cameras in the booth!

Date: 2008-12-01 07:04 pm (UTC)It's awkward because it means I don't really go looking for fic for fear of wasting time on badly written stuff, but it's lovely when fics drop in your lap thanks to these special or seasonal comms.

LMAO! I'm right there with you!

Date: 2008-12-01 11:06 pm (UTC)Then I thought of you!
I'm baffled by the whole notion of 'exposing' oneself -- why it's such a big deal. I suppose people will argue it's because the part in question can be a bit unpredictable, but I think it's more a conspiracy of men who don't want other people to 'compare and contrast'.

Date: 2008-12-02 05:26 pm (UTC)Exactly! LOL! Personally, I don't see the harm. It's not like he was ... ahem, flogging it, so to speak.

Hahahaha, you raise a good point. There are plenty of men who don't want it to become commonplace ;o)
