In a land of myth and a time of magic, I promised more picspams. I did not deliver. But now, with time on my hands and Sneaky Friends Who Persuade, I have returned with a brand new offering. Before you click and gaze upon my chosen pics and accompanying commentary, let me please point out that it is strangely difficult to find unintentional crack within such a cracked-up episode. I hope you will not be disappointed and, as always, please remember that I only poke fun at shows that I adore. I do not mean what I say. I don't mean that either.

All caps are by me and are free to take, use and alter. No credit required.

Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] kitty_poker1, [livejournal.com profile] accioscar and I went to the British Film institute to see the premiere of episode 1 season 2 of Merlin. Despite feeling like complete crap, I had a wonderful day. Kitty and I did the London Eye and Aquarium earlier on in the day and then we met Scar outside the venue for the screening.

I'm not going to give away any spoilers, but I'd just briefly like to assure everyone on my flist who loves this show, that going by this first episode and the mix trailer, season 2 is going to be every bit as good as season one. And, yes, the slashy 'subtext' is still there in all its glory, starting about three seconds into episode 1. From the cheering and clapping, we slashers were clearly a majority. A children's event, they said! Silly BFI. They'll learn.

The Q & A afterwards was a lot of fun and I wish it had been longer. Funniest moment was the person who forgot Anthony Head's name and after umming and ahhing for a while simply called him Giles. WIN!

Kitty, Scar and I were in the front row and Colin and Bradly were a mere five feet away from us. I had several long internal debates about whether I should be staring at them or not. I couldn't help myself! They are both just as gorgeous in the flesh and Colin has the cutest smile I think I've ever seen. I need to think about it, but Colin/Merlin could be my new woobie. God knows I need someone to take over from Ianto Jones.

Bradley is a very funny man. His humour is slow and dry and more than once his way with words had Anthony Head giggling. Yes, Anthony Head is a giggler. It's official.

After the Q & A, lots of us gathered outside for the chance of another glimpse of the cast and maybe autographs. We were rewarded with Anthony Head and Katy McGrath. Kitty asked Tony if he would be attending Hallowhedon, but he hadn't heard anything about it. He did say he hoped Nicholas Brendon and James Masters wold pop over to see him if they were in the country. When I got my autograph, I had to have my usual fangirl moment and I told him he was 'the best king EVA!' He pulled up and puffed out, gave me a big smile and said 'thank you very much!'. Well, it's more or less proven now; I cannot go to a fan event without making a tit out of myself. Who remembers 'thank you for being so awesome!' to Burn Gorman at the Hub?

We weren't allowed to take photos at the event, but I manged to get in a couple before we were told to stop. Feel free to take them and use them, anyone. What's mine is yours etc. Dial-up people beware.

Impossibly, this show gets slashier every week. I know I mostly see things through gigantic homemade slash goggles, but I put them on deliberately. As much as I've been spoiled by Jack and Ianto in Torchwood and as much as I joke about all men really wanting to do each other but just not admitting it, I do actually know when something isn't gay.

This. Show. Is. Gay.

Or at least it's as close as it can be without ever crossing the line.

Seriously, for those of you yet to see the show, you're probably thinking that I'm reading too much into things. But there is no reading. There is no subtle, underlying subtext. It's so blatant.

And side from the writers clearly paddling us all up the gay river, this show gives us a wonderful glimpse of male to male friendship, and that's something you don't see too much of.

Another great episode. In just eleven weeks, Merlin has already carved out a place for itself on British television, and it's going nowhere for a very long time.

Also, THAT UNICORN HAD NO EYES, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!

This is probably the slashiest of all the episodes so far which, believe me, is really saying something. I went overboard so beware when you click the cut. 80 something pics.

Images capped by me and are free for anyone to take.

I capped this episode early last week with the intention of proving what a great episode it is. Unfortunately, when I reviewed the pictures for cropping on Sunday I discovered almost all caps were close-ups of Arthur looking pouty and gorgeous and Merlin looking cute and adorable. Whoops! Oh well. You guys don't mind, do you?

You'll also notice the banner says mini-picspam. That is a lie. Click for 40-something of the buggers.

The purpose of this little picspam is one of persuasion, corruption and conversion. Look into my eyes; you will like Merlin.

Under the cut are sixteen smallish screencaps taken from the first episode, The Dragon's Call. Take a look, guys, and tell me you're not a little bit curious. For those of you who are already watching, have another look at the pretty boys, on me, my treat.

There were times when Merlin felt like telling Arthur to go spin on his sword for all the ridiculous demands he made, but when it involved nakedness, he was happy to obey. )
