I know I said I wouldn't ...

I had the time of my life at The Hub 2 and booked The Hub 3 immediately. But inbetween that time the unthinkable happened, Children of Earth, and I said that The Hub 3 would be my last.
I LIED!!
We had such a fantastic time that
kitty_poker1,
sweet_exile and
accioscar and I have just this minute booked Gold tickets for The Hub 4. Yes, we are crazy, but we are also very happy. It's not even really about Torchwood anymore. Personally, I'm only on the fringes of that fandom now, but these events are so much fun and such good value for money, I can't stay away. More than anything, it's about hanging out with good friends and meeting new ones. And it's also all about the squishing of bellies.
So, who else is coming the The Hub 4? ~cough~
piksa? ~cough~

So true. Meeting up with old friends and making new ones is the hook, plus howling at old jokes (fuck-off-Paul) and finding new ones and just hanging with other fandom people is irresistible. Money? Phht. It's always been worth every penny, despite the occasional crappy hotel service.
It's the social! We always meet the loveliest people.

Date: 2009-11-08 06:58 pm (UTC)LOL! I was talking to a RL friend on Friday and I told her about the hotel. She used to work for the chain in the IT department and she said it was an absolute dump, and she and her collegues refused to stay there when they had to spend a couple of weeks installing their new computer system. She said at that time the building was on the cusp of being condemed! :oO

Date: 2009-11-08 05:16 pm (UTC)I really don't know if I have money! Also no one to share the room this time around since the friend I was with last time is going through major surgeries for her legs and will have to pass all the conventions next year. Very expensive to have the room all by myself. If I take my sleeping bag can I crash on the floor of your room?
So very tempted!

Date: 2009-11-08 07:00 pm (UTC)Sorry, luv, Kitty and I like our space and also we'd hate to get into trouble with the hotel. Nothing personal, though! It would be lovely to see you again. Maybe you can ask on your LJ to share with someone, or ask on the
You know you wanna come ~g~

Date: 2009-11-08 07:08 pm (UTC)I'm pretty close to booking now. I totally fail with my resolve. The friend I shared with during Hub3 isn't helping since she's urging me to book as well.
If I know myself at all I'll probably book in the near future. There's plenty of time to sort out the sleeping arangements later.
ETA: I take it back. I've now booked. I will worry about the details later. I'm already well in debt. A bit more doesn't hurt...A few months time to come up with a plan to leave the country without anyone knowing about it...

Date: 2009-11-08 07:25 pm (UTC)Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! I'm crossing my fingers that you come. You could always book a room at the Ibis and sort out who to share with later. They don't require payment until the actual day.

Date: 2009-11-08 07:31 pm (UTC)I already have one convention booked for beginning of May. I'm pretty sure my parents will kill me if they find out that I'm again going to two conventions inside a month. Added to that the fact that I will probably book for Hallowhedon2 next month and if there's Hub5 it is quite possible there will again be two conventions coming in the fall. Okay, I'm getting ahead of myself here but still.
I need a crazy icon...

LOL, you have to get ahead of yourself! I'm thinking that I'm going to The Hub and also the SFX Weekender and if Showmasters announce an SPN con I'm so getting Gold for that, and then I'd like to go see Merlin related stuff and meet Bradley and Colin ...

Date: 2009-11-08 11:29 pm (UTC)How fast do the Gold tickets usually go?
(P.S. I decided on a costume for the Weekender Maskerade which is simultaneously awesome and a nightmare to make. I think I'm going slightly mad.)

Date: 2009-11-09 11:24 am (UTC)Gold tickets can go reasonably fast depending on the guests booked. I do believe there are quite a few left but if John or Gareth or James get announced they'll go like lightning. (also, the sooner you book the more chance they'll be that you get in the same group as us and therefore we can queue together)
~crosses fingers you'll come~
OMG, I haven't even thought about the Maskerade! I must! What are you making or is it a surprise?

Date: 2009-11-09 07:33 pm (UTC)Really, it's just seeing people like you lot again that makes things like this so good.
I knew that if I dressed up for the Maskerade that whatever I made would have to do double duty and be suitable for when we take the Brownies away on holiday in 2011. The theme is Doctor Who so I had to choose between what would give a bunch of 8 year olds the better nightmares - Daleks or Weeping Angels? I'm going for the Angels from Blink. Most of the costume is easy though time consuming but the wings are going to kill me!

Date: 2009-11-09 09:20 pm (UTC)LOL, Kitty and I were plebs the first time we went and it was fine. I think the Golds are going quite slowly at the mo so fingers crossed they'll still be lots left by the end of November. If not there's always the Silver tickets which are exactly the same as Gold except you don't get the hour-long guest reception, the mug, t-shirt or the priority seating for the talks. But all the autos and photos are still included.

I think that's going to give me nightmares! LOL! Sounds like a hard costume to make. I wouldn't know where to begin!

Date: 2009-11-09 11:02 pm (UTC)Helps that I've got a scary Angel mask already from the DW mag that I've been collecting (purely because of the brilliant free gifts each week - prizes for the Brownies all sorted).
I'm musing whether to do something radically different with the costume - fairy wings or graffiti, perhaps?

Date: 2009-11-10 12:02 pm (UTC)The DW does have great free gifts. I bought it once to get TARDIS post-its and a sonic screwdriver pen. Hee!
