May. 21st, 2007 08:34 pmFirstly, I just want to say that I really hope the fire at the Cutty Sark wasn't deliberate. And if it was, may the culprits suffer a devastating house fire that destroys everything they own.
And on that topic, here's a small fire-related family titbit for you. I'll put it under a cut because it involves the death of an animal. Be warned; it isn't nice.
I do actually have a very twisted family and there really is a reason that I don't like most of them. Many reasons, in fact. Maybe I'll let you in on some of it over the next few months. I feel like talking.
I have an uncle - one of many - who was a young pyromaniac. He's my grandad's son. He lit fires wherever he went and even once burned down grandad's train set; it was one of those huge, replica ones that fills up a whole room. B burned it to the ground.
Then, one night, he set light to what he thought was an empty barn. Only it wasn't empty. The barn burned to the ground and a bull burned with it. He said to me once that he could still hear it screaming - it sounded human.
He never lit another fire again.
Now he's grown up,he's an upstanding citizen he's on the run from the police for a string of fraud offenses and has been for literally decades.
I don't know why I told you all that. Felt like story time, I guess.
In other news, Ive made my very first Drarry banner and changed my layout colours to match. I'm quite pleased.

When I was young, we lived on a farm in Missouri, although we didn't farm the land. The fields, animals, and barn were all owned and cared for by someone else. My brothers (about 7 & 8 years old) started the fun hobby of lighting fires behind the barn. One cold day, they took their hobby inside and accidentally lit up the autumn's hay, stacked in bales. The fire was put out before anyone was hurt, but they could easily have burnt down the whole farm, what with the winds and the proximity to the house.

::shakes fist::
But on other news, you're banner is very pretty. I want one too! You know, a magic ball with which to gaze upon hot ments.

Date: 2007-05-21 08:44 pm (UTC)Thank you! Yes, a ball full of hotness would be great, huh? :oD

Ah, in which case, I'll just tell you that it's the best banner in the entire world and you won't know any different. Hee!

Date: 2007-05-21 09:35 pm (UTC)When I worked in the prison we had a lot of pyromaniacs. Arsonists.
They all had a sort of creepyness about them.
Most of them were also bed wetters.

Date: 2007-05-21 09:45 pm (UTC)You worked in a prison?! Wow, what was that like?
(no subject)
Date: 2007-05-21 10:05 pm (UTC)max security prison as a corrections
officer (guard). It was bizarre,
terrible, funny, great, and awful.
The stress gave me two heart attacks.
The State gave me a disability.
I'm good.

Date: 2007-05-21 10:23 pm (UTC)I think that book would be a best seller!

Date: 2007-05-21 10:29 pm (UTC)"I may be a bitch, but I'm not your bitch!" What would make the book interesting was the fact that I worked strictly with sex offenders for 8 years. You would be shocked at the number of them that were with only animals. How do you convince someone a horse is a victim when it probably didn't even know he was back there.

Date: 2007-05-21 10:38 pm (UTC)Really? Animals? The human mind is a strange thing. I wonder...just why? Why do people do things like that?
Was it uncomfortable working with sex offenders?

Date: 2007-05-21 10:43 pm (UTC)the best one was the homicides. They were the easiest because most were just ordinary people that snapped one day. Few were hard core criminals.
I used to sit in the dayroom with them and force them to watch Buffy reruns with me. The gay guys would sit with me and drool over Spike. It was a hoot.

Date: 2007-05-21 10:09 pm (UTC)There's times we all wish we could trade out someone in our family. And hey, sharing's cool. Start a trend. You share and then maybe some of us can feel ok about sharing. =]
The new banner? Very spiff! You put the blue shadows in? Killer job. *nodnods* I like the expression of the pic you picked too.

Date: 2007-05-21 10:20 pm (UTC)Thank you! There was already a shadow in the picture, but I blurred and smudged it and put in the blue tones. I think it worked quite well. It's a nice picture of him, isn't it?

Date: 2007-05-23 03:28 pm (UTC)Fank hoo! No, I'm gonna go back to rotating, but with totally new banners. I love the way this one blends into the background. When I put it up it made the others look silly. So, guess what I'll be doing all weekend ;o)
