I've been smoke free for 31 days and I'm absolutely gagging for a cigarette. Before I gave up completely, I'd cut down to only a few fags very late at night, but now I'm craving ALL DAY. This is not a good sign.

I started my Open University course this weekend and we've kicked off with a study of the Realist Novel. Pride and Prejudice. Great Expectations. Fathers and Sons. And Frankenstein as an example of the Anti-realist novel. I'm dreading having to critique and discuss Fathers and Sons because my honest opinion is that it's a pile of shit. I don't think I'll get a very good mark if I put that in an essay :OD

On the bright side, here is my latest creation. Everyone, meet ...

Piccalo!

He's outgoing, fun, definitely a showbiz kinda guy (I'm thinking the stage), and when I give him to [livejournal.com profile] big_balls she will probably rename him Colin.

Frankenstein! I love that novel, even after studying it for A-Level English, along with King Lear and Things Fall Apart. I sensed that the tutor might have had father issues...

Fathers and Sons by Ivan Turgid? I'm sorry, I'm just not a huge fan of the Great Russian Novel. And saying that you think a novel is a pile of shit is a valid critique, so long as you can say *why*.

In conclusion, I think I need to go rewatch Young Frankenstein. Fronk-En-Steen!

Frankenstein is brilliant, although I have to be in the right mood for it. I find it quite depressing!

LOL! Quite. At the moment I only know I hate it because it's boring and bleak and colourless and completely uninteresting. It's too real. I would have a better time watching pain peel from age and damp conditions. I guess I'll learn how to say that in a more academically pleasing way. Hee! :OD

Oooh, will it count as research if I watch it, too?

He's cute! (And your knitting's improving :-)

Is it Turgenev's Fathers and Sons? It's a long time since I read it, but I thought it was one of those Russian novels where criticism of the regime was disguised as tale of domestic life.

Thank you! I'm really pleased with how he turned out. I still can't get the arms right and his head is a bit lumpy, but it's a definitely improvement.

Yep, that's the one. Too well disguised, if you ask me. It sent me to sleep!

I've been smoke free for 31 days

Congratulations!!! As a smoker of over 40 years I have tried so many times to stop but I don't have the willpower and my admiration for anyone who can do this knows no bounds :)

You knitting is adorable :)

31 days? Go you! *throws confetti*
I never really got the point of realism in fiction; isn't escapism what it's for? Although Pride and Prejudice is an all time favourite. Good luck with that.
And he's brilliant. I liked the red one, but I can see the shape of Piccalo better in this photo.

Congratulations!

When I quit years ago, I got gum. Not nicotine gum, but things like trident and bubblicious. One of my old school friends took psych classes and said I have a mild oral fixation, but that could be because I stole her carrot sticks.
