Feb. 2nd, 2009 10:42 amThree inches of snow outside, no heating. How typical.
It'll be several days before the blockage causing all the problems can be cleared, but Grandad and I are in good spirits. At least we are now I've given Grandad a stern talking to. Mentally, he can sometimes be quite unstable, but I've managed to snap him out of his childish behavior and now we're both doing whatever we can to 'survive the cold' as he puts it. Portable heaters, hot soup, blankets, Scooby Doo hot water bottle -- just like the war :o/
And now I am cooking the roast dinner we should have had yesterday. OMG, the kitchen is so lovely and warm.
The other plus is that I'm wearing my favourite woolly jumper that I normally can't ever wear because it's too thick and I feel like a sheep in bears' thermals.

Date: 2009-02-02 11:15 am (UTC)I have a jumper like that - I knitted it out of wool that is thermal and it's too hot to usually wear. Lovely this weather though :)

Date: 2009-02-02 11:32 am (UTC)I've just got back from a 3 hour pleasure trip -- a third of the way to work & back again. There are no trains between London and Cambridge, apparently, but they let us get part way before they told us. So I'm 'working from home' (as you can see).

Date: 2009-02-02 05:09 pm (UTC)So long as you have hot water.... Haul a space heater into the bathroom and close the door and let the heat and steam fill it up! And make sure you dress in there, too.

Date: 2009-02-02 11:03 pm (UTC)I do not envy you your adventure in heatinglessness - I did it a few years ago. The coldest week on record for over ten years here, battling a horrendous case of the lurgy. The landlord goes off on holiday and the very next day the heating and hot water die. For a week. I was blue. Sheesh.

Date: 2009-02-03 05:59 am (UTC)The parrots in the front garden came to sit in the shade of my veranda with wings stretched out, away from their sides, panting. One baby king-parrot found the bird bath and sat squawking happily in it. Roll on Autumn.
Shame we can't send each other a little of what we have.
