Cut for a brief reaction that isn't totally spoilery, but spoilery enough to kinda ruin the end if you've clever enough so I'm not taking any chances.

Much darker than previous episodes, I thought, which was quite a nice change. The pace felt different too, faster editing, intense dialogue, giving an impression of momentum building. Nice to see the character development there, too. A Gwen and Arthur "moment", and the darker side of Morgana. She and Uther were excellent and I adore them both. I loved that image at the end, of the two of them together, the wind billowing their cloaks and the slight mist in the air.

Re next week's trailer: OMFG!! ARTHUR!! THE BOAT! AVALON!!! THE WRATH OF MERLIN!!!

NEXT WEEK WILL BE BEYOND AMAZING. I'M SO EXCITED AND CAPSLOCKY!

This episode was fantastic, I loved the change of pace (reminded me of 'Moment of Truth', actually, in that sense) and the character development and Morgana's backstory... oh, this show gets better and better.

I'm almost certain they will, which will, quite frankly, kill me, but in a ridiculously enjoyable way.

Also - surely they can't not be recommissioned if there's a cliffhanger? Just think of the distress that would cause us all children everywhere!

And also sad. I liked Gwen's dad. When Morgana seemed serious in her plots, I was so certain that it was going to be a 'turns back time' episode. But, in fact, the fact that Merlin followed the dragon's advice, by not following it, and allowed Morgana to redeem herself, that was so much better.

It worked out pretty well. I honestly couldn't guess what was going to happen. But when it did happen it was completely right.

Yes, so sad!

I like the darker turn recent episodes are taking too. It raises the show from the just being dismissed as a 'kids show' into something more for grown ups.

Next week! OMG I can't wait.

I know!

Even though we know he *has* to be okay, it's still very worrying!
