Those TW S3 Spoilers

I'm going to cut for Torchwood spoilers again so DON'T click or scroll down if you don't want big-arse S3 rumours. This is the same spoiler as last time, btw. I just need to say stuff.

Two days ago I found some pretty convincing rumours that Ianto was going to die by the end of Season 3. This news threw me into fits of anger, angst, emo whining, flaily arms, tearful staring off into the distance, and the avoidance of soppy songs and all of John Barrowman's albums. Since then, I have not managed to find anything to contradict these rumours except an article with Gareth talking about the format of season 3 and saying 'WE will be returning to the usual format for season 4.'

I was heartbroken. I still am. And if it turns out to be true, I'm seriously going to cry, a lot.

But I do feel better now. Thanks to Ame and Literati for their supportive emails, and even bigger thanks to Kitty for talking me down over the last couple of days and putting up with my emotional dramatics. This is what makes fandom a wonderful place to be. I can get seriously upset over a fictional character and there are people who understand.

As far as I'm concerned, Ianto will never die. If he goes at the end of S3, he will be brought back for season 4. Jack really does love him and perhaps it takes something like this to make Jack fully understand his feelings. What we'll end up with once it's all put together is a beautiful love story. But putting my excellent logic aside, fanfiction exists for a reason, for us to tell our own stories about these characters that we love. Ianto lives forever where it counts -- in our hearts.

And while I'm at it, here is my S3 prediction. This nasty new alien results in the death of Ianto's sister and brother-in-law and Ianto decides he must leave Torchwood to take care of his young nephew. Jack realises his love for Ianto, but has to retcon him. Obviously by season 4, we discover the retcon didn't take ... Seriously, guys, imagine the fic! Jack and Ianto brining up a kiddie! AUW!

Yes, exactly. As long as fanfic exists, Ianto will live forever, no matter what happens in the show. And I do think they'd be dumb to kill him off. We already had the shock deaths in 'Fragments' so they'd just be repeating themselves.

I love that idea for a fic! You should definitely write it. *nods hard*

Totally adore your fic idea!

I will be roally pissed off if they kill Ianto. Is there any info when they are going to show the third season? Will it be before Hub2? I would imagine if the series isn't shown before March people are going to be asking for a lot of spoilers there and if the eps are shown there's going to be a lot of talk about them, whatever happens.

Keeping fingers crossed Ianto makes it through the season. I'm also trying to keep in mind what GDL said at the Hub about him wanting to do season four as well. In my opinion that indicates he survives...

I've heard loads of different rough dates including Jan, Feb, March, May and June. I don't even think the BBC knows yet!

I really hope it airs before the Hub2, then if things go terribly wrong we can lean on each other for support in person.

The more I think about it, the more I think he doesn't die, Ianto leaves TW.

I had this feeling when I saw posts about a death that it was Ianto...although I'm going to go with that part of my brain that can totally block out anything it doesn't want to hear and remain in denial...denial is good...sometimes it works out...okay it didn't when I pretended I hadn't read that Wesley would die on Angel, but it did when I ignored all theories that Snanpe was really working for Voldemort so...and GDL did imply he was doing season 4...and really if they kill Ianto...there really isn't a team...it's just Jack and Gwen and I refuse to accept that.

Yeah, I'm leaning towards him leaving TW at the end of S3 and coming back for S4. Someone said either Rhys of Ianto will die, but I don't believe it. It doesn't make sense for either of them to die.

The rumor seemed to have started out as "someone is going to die" which could well be Jack...and he'll come back. JB did say the way Jack dies this season is his favorite way Jack has died...I think Rhys makes more sense than Ianto...he's not really part of the team...but if they're killing a regular, Andy is really the most expendable.

I totally know what you mean about the Ianto rumours! I'm hanging on to the idea that it totally won't happen. There's been that talk about each of them having to sacrifice something - I'm thinking Jack will be made to choose to have Ianto retconned rather than having him die or something - but retcon can easily not take, if something happens to jog people's memories.... and can you imagine how exciting it would be if Jack and Ianto met and had a relationship again - maybe with neither of them knowing? If things are eventful in some way for Jack and Ianto (and we know there will be some kind of 'development') then it could be a catalyst for some really fantastic fanfic - just look what happened after the craziness that was Cyberwoman. So as you say, regardless of what actually happens in the series, it could bring a whole new lease of life to Jack/Ianto in fandom.

I'm not sure either. The rumours originally came from (apparently) a crew member who claimed that either Ianto or Rhys would die.

I was thinking... what if they kill him in order to make him immortal? If he isn't already. I mean, he survived Canary Wharf! and you know that bit in Cyberwoman after the kiss? Same gasp upon returning back to life just like Jack does.
