The Tales of Beedle the Bard
Dec. 4th, 2008 08:07 pmMy copy arrived promptly from Amazon today although, disappointingly, it was only the standard version and not the super-duper collector's edition which I so couldn't afford but I preordered months ago and thought fuck it I'm not cancelling.
I rather enjoyed it. The stories were cute and well-written and I loved Dumbledore's notes between each tale. I lol'd several times and when I was done I decided I really missed Harry and Hogwarts, all the magic and intrigue.
I'm gonna cut for spoilers now.
Scroll down, ya'll, or click away if you're tracking and don't want the exciting news.
There's another Malfoy ancestor mentioned, plus Dumbledore talks about how his long-running clash with Lucius began.
It's probably silly to get excited over such a small thing, but I love that the Malfoys got a pretty large mention as opposed to anyone else.
Verdict: Fantastic for £3.49, and it makes me long for Hogwarts: A History or similar. Will it be worth fifty quid for the collector's edition? I'll let you know in a day or two hopefully.

Date: 2008-12-04 09:33 pm (UTC)I am reading Almost Perfect now though...can I read 2 books at once?
Sure! It's only a teeny book anyway. You'll have it read in an hour, if that.
I LOVE Almost Perfect. Poor Ianto!

Date: 2008-12-04 08:54 pm (UTC)Still, very exciting that there's more backstory coming through; I totally didn't expect that from 'Beedle'.
I'm really longing for 'Hogwarts: A History' too, and the much-discussed encyclopaedia.

I do hope it actually gets written!

Date: 2008-12-05 05:38 am (UTC)I didn't quite know what to expect, but mine arrived today, and the case is absolutely huge, and the book inside is really *solid* with actual metalwork on the binding, and it's a nice hefty volume too, just right for reading slowly and leisurely.
I'd expected it all to be much smaller and thinner from the pictures on Amazon and was very pleasantly surprised!
