Why did no-one tell me that gloss paint has a life of it's own? I feel tacky.

I've just painted my study a very fetching shade of green and touched the skirting and door with Brilliant White as opposed to Crappy White. This was a rather rash idea that I thought of yesterday. I know, I thought, I'll paint my study with that pot of emulsion I bought three years ago; it won't take long - what, an hour? two?

Seven hours. I've done a sloppy job; I've missed bits; I coloured outside the lines. I don't care. It looks pretty good and it's better than the bare wall I've had for the last four years. I feel like I've achieved something.

Now I'm going for a cup of tea and a long, hot bubblebath.

Oh yes, painting is such a joy. Not! Congrats on finishing, and no one will notice little imperfections.

Enjoy the tea and bubble bath!

Ack. It was nightmare shifting the furniture around and trying not to drip gloss on the carpet, and wobbling on the ladder ...

Tea and bubble bath was much needed!

Gloss paint has a mind of its own.

All paint does, actually. That's why, when you watch a fix-it-up show, they're always covering or moving everything they don't want to get painted.

Luckily, I managed to keep the gloss off the furniture. The emulsion though ... well, lets just say I have a cabinet that now needs a good scrub.

congratulations!
i know exactly what you mean. i hemmed a new duvet cover that i bought yesterday so that now it *actually* fits my duvet (instead of being like 15cm too long on each side!)
and i had that same feeling.
"Ahhhhhh...i did something useful"
