Semagic and posting to multiple journals
Aug. 8th, 2007 05:58 pmThis is for those of you who have signed up with other journals such as Insane Journal, Greatest Journal and JournalFen and are wondering how everyone has got the time to update ALL the journals with the same post. The answer is Semagic. This is a Livejournal Client which allows the user to post to multiple journals at exactly the same time. Why would I want to do that, I hear to you cry. Because if you've got a back-up journal, why not use it, and if the worst happens and everyone fucks off over to Insane Journal, you'll already be set up with a fully working journal complete with all your posts - very handy for if LJ/6A decide to come down on half your flist. I dunno about you, but if my friends and my favourite comms jump ship, I'm gonna paddle after them as fast as my little flippers will allow.
Semagic is really easy to use and only takes a few minutes to set up. Firstly, download the appropraite version of Semagic for your Windows from the link above.
Once you've done that and set it up to work with your LJ, take the following steps (I typed this bit out for my
amejisto and have since passed it on, so I have it on good authority that this is a nice, simplistic set of instructions which should work with all versions of Semagic):
At the login screen (mine is a small box with a big picture of the purple pen) log back in with a different journal. Start with your GJ. Type your user name followed by gj "amejisuto gj" for example (this is so you can tell which journal is which) and then the password for that journal. Check both the little ticky boxes (if there are any) but DON'T log in yet.
Then, click FILE and then SERVER SETTINGS at the top. Change the server address to www.greatestjournal.com (it may already be in the drop down box) and then delete the "gl" from the user name on this screen only, leaving just "amejisuto", but leave everything else. Click OKAY and then LOGIN. Repeat for all your journals, replacing the "gj" with "ij"and "jf" for the appropriate journal (I got a couple of error messages when I did this but it still worked regardless).
Now, when you're done with that, login under your actual LJ username. So, type "amejisuto" and your password. Now type out a test post on Semagic and go to JOURNAL and then down to POST TO MULTIPLE JOURNALS. A list of ticky boxes should appear. Tick the journals (the lj one should already be ticked because you logged in under it) you want to post to at the same time "amejisuto gj" "amejisuto ij" "amejisuto jf". Then click OKAY and you have a go!
Ta daaaaaaa! I hope this helps.

Date: 2007-08-09 04:43 am (UTC)Umm, help, please?
I have no problem posting for both GJ and JF, or if I post for LJ and JF. However, I can't post GJ and LJ. I'm thinking I've done something wrong as both of these accounts are under oligomer as opposed to monomer...any help you could provide would be a plus. Thank you!

Date: 2007-08-09 04:50 am (UTC)I get an error from GJ saying that my password is wrong, yet I can log in using the same password if not trying to multipost...

Date: 2007-08-09 12:17 pm (UTC)My advice would be to create a new Login in Semagic for your GJ. So, go through all the steps above again and recreate the login under a slightly diff name i.e "oligomer GJ2" (making sure to remove the "GJ2" in the server settings. Then use this to multi-post and for single posting. Lemme know how it goes.

Date: 2007-08-09 01:30 pm (UTC)I'm not sure if the 'new login' would help because the login worked perfectly and it had my userpics from gj and ij. The password was right originally. Just when I logged in with my lj account and I went to posting to multiple journals and selected the others I had the 'password is wrong'.
*sigh*
