As many of you know, a much loved Spander fic was finished this week after a break of several years. I'll happily admit that I didn't like the end at all. It was one of my fav fics and that last chapter broke my delicate little heart into several blackened pieces. I just like my totally happy Spander endings. Nothing else matters as long as they're together with the potential for forever.

Anyway, it's made me think that it's time I updated and finished From out of Nowhere. It was the very first piece of fanfiction I wrote and feel bad that it's still unfinished.

I originally had big plans of at least another five large parts , but I'm afraid I've lost interest in it. So, I'm gonna wrap it up with one last epic part and be done with it. I know there are some people still hanging on for it, so I'm going to just get on with it. This will, unfortunately, delay Teenage Dirtbag, but once it's done it's done and I'll be able to give TD my full attention again.

One slight problem I have, though, is that I've competely forgotten almost everything I wrote. LOL! Whoops. To fix this problem, I'm having to re-read my own work, which is always weird and entertaining. As I said, From Out of Nowhere was my first, and it sewed the seeds for my tendency to write epics. I am incredibly fond of it, but my goodness I made a lot of newbie errors! POV confusion is absolutely rife, the cliches come thick and fast, and can we all say OOC? If anyone wants to read, Mine!Spike and Woobie!Xander, this is the fic for them :oD

Also, I actually wrote this:

Xander looked down and saw Spike stroking himself and that was enough to bring him right near to the edge. He screamed up at the ceiling in frustration. “SPIKE!!”

Spike was nearly deafened by the frantic plea.

Sexy, eh? Poor Spike! Clearly Xander has forgotten all about Spike's Border Collie!Hearing. Hee!

Which Spander fic was it that disappointed you so?

Oh, and I'm right there with you on what happens when you go back and read your earlier work. Yes, there have been tears.

It was Sands of Time. I don't want to disrespect the authors because they're so very talented and the rest of the fic was absolutely astounding. I just feel a little bit cheated :o(

Tears of laughter at the moment! LOL! Hee!

I understand. There was a fic I adored once that had an ending that felt tacked on and unsatisfying. *sigh* I still love the fic, though. When I reread it now, I just make up my own ending.

I'm glad you can laugh...

I am so with you on that fic you're talking about. I adore the series and I just cried -- well i won't go on about it out of respect for the authors. I'm just going to pretend it never happened. I have theories about why, but anyway....

I have no problem with wrapping up something, i actually thought you were revising 'from out of nowhere' so I was waiting for it to pop up again. Now you know what not to do to wrap it up. ;-)

Ah, the inevitable discovery of errors, small & big, from reading early fics. How fun. But think of how it can be reimagined now that you're writing and knowledge has grown.

I just don't understand why it had to happen the way it did. I know it was their fic to do what they liked with, but why basically erase everything that happened? The pain Xander must have been in. My goodness, how awful! I'm starting to flail again just thinking about it. :o( I'm gonna pretend, too.

I revised quite a bit of From out of Nowhere, but then I sort of left it to fester when Teenage Dirtbag took over. It's definitely time to sort it out.

Now you know what not to do to wrap it up. ;-)

Absolutely! Eeek, no.

It is fun to look back at the early stuff, and I'm still very proud of what I managed to achieve considering I hadn't written for years and my understanding of grammar and the show was so limited at the time.

you should be proud, it is an accomplishment and sure its not perfect, but early writing never is. It's a great story. I was recently putting my old stuff on my LJ so i could archive it there & was reminded of stuff that seriously needs rewrite b/c so much has changed in my style/abilities since then. but i left it - because i'm still proud of it.

If a fic is going to take over, Teenage Dirtbag is a good one to have do it. :-D

Yes, I don't understand why that story had to go that way either. Flail is a good word to describe my reaction, along with - well, i don't want to theorize & wail on a public post. And it didn't happen anyway, cause that's the pretend, right?

::nods decisively:: right.

I'm just so glad that I'm not the only one totally bummed out by that fic. If it would have stopped at the smut it would have been okay, you know? The rest felt like I'd been shot.

Good luck with FOON Love! Now you know why it's so hard to go back and finish WKBK. I read what I've written ages ago and get too embarrassed to go on! LOL

Yeah, the smut was great and it felt just like reading another chapter or SoT, but then it seemed to bounce off somewhere. And as it continued, I felt a little bits of my soul peeling away.

Thanks, luv! It's a fairly large job, but if I crack on, I should have it done within the month. Standby for a chapter to beta :oD

Oh, the embarrassment! Lordy! I completely understand!

Then I saw your reaction, and . . . maybe I won't go read it.

I truly regret reading it, even though I know I wouldn't have not read it for the world. Then again, I do tend to get very upset by these things. The whole reason why I started writing fanfiction was because some bastard killed Xander in a fic and I was so devastated, I just had to give him life, body and soul in my own fic.

I get upset, too. I've re-read Sands of Time too often and wondered how things were going to proceed without reading what is apparently a "And then Spike loses his memory" ending. There's ending a fic and then there's "Let's get this thing out of our hair."

Yep, and this really did feel like that. I know Xander has made this huge sacrifice and that is completely in character for him, and it says so much about his relationship with Spike that Spike loved him enough to let Xander do it without a fuss. But it just doesn't change the fact that the last chapter basically undoes EVERYTHING, and takes EVERYTHING away from Xander.

Very upsetting.

It sounds exactly like a fic I read with Xander hopping from dimension to dimensions, meeting and loving Spike, changing things, and in the end getting home and having Anyanka(?) say "Do you know how much work it's been putting everything back the way it was?" I mean, what was the point of putting Xander--and us--through all that just for it to mean squat?

Hi, sweetie!

Well, I'm done with the revising of it, although I am going through a couple of parts that were originally unbeta'd, but not changing anything drastic. I would say go ahead and start reading. I'm estimating the last part will be done within a month.

Totally agreed. Absolutely loved that fic; but that last chapter, while well written, tore my heart out. I never would have guessed in a million years that the author wouldn't give them a happily ever after. I'm just going to have to tell myself that Spike's been faking it and biding his time, and never had his memory erased.

I seem to remember actually seeing an early note from one of the authors saying that it would have a happy ending, so I really feel quite cheated. Then again, perhaps I just dreamed that. It's entirely possible! :oD

I'm telling myself the same thing. It still doesn't mend my broken heart, though. After Xander was given a chance to grow up where he was loved and wanted, he was cast back to his old life. Sucks bad for him :o(

Two parts:

1. From out of Nowhere was the first Spander fic i ver read so it will always have a special place in my heart and I'm so glad to hear you're finishing it.

2. Do you have the link for SoT? I can't find it and I really want to read the ending no matter how sad it may be.
