OMG, I'm, like, so excited!
Jan. 22nd, 2007 08:51 pmOkay, I'm up to date with Grief Counseling and I've sent of the next chappy of Teenage Dirtbag to Kitty, so I thought I'd treat myself to a small fiddle with Windows Movie Maker just to see what it's all about. I've started my first vid! It's just an experimental one so I can work out what button does what and it's McShep because I don't have any Buffy files saved on my computer at the mo. And guess what? I've gone with a comedy angle; completely by accident, btw. Teeheeeee! Don't expect anything flashy, but this is so cool. Just wait until you hear the music I've used. OMG, I have just killed myself laughing. ~wipes eyes~

Date: 2007-01-22 11:19 pm (UTC)Okay, here's my experience with Windows Movie Maker: it's slow. It crashes. It's frustrating. However, it works.
These are the vids
However, Caza downloaded a program that's much faster and easier to use (timing, editing, etc) but it was $70 or so. If you're interested in checking it out, I can get the info for you.
I'm currently making my first vid with it, so we'll see how it goes.
I also found a lot of the tech posts at
If you have any questions, let me know - I don't know much, but I'll share what little knowledge I have. :) Good luck with the McShep!

Date: 2007-01-23 07:29 pm (UTC)So far WMM has crashed a few times, so I'm learning to save a lot! I would be interested in the name of this other program, if that would be okay. WMM does seem fairly easy but if there is easier stuff out there I'm all for that! Hee!
Yeah, all my Btvs/Ats is on DVD. Is there a recommended program for that? Does it take ages to rip?
Thank you so much, luv. I love doing my fandom stuff and this feels like such a treat! ~hugs~

Date: 2007-01-23 09:21 pm (UTC)Okay, here's the vidding stuff from
The program we use for vidding is Ulead Videostudios 10. There is a 30 day free trial, then it costs $60. http://www.ulead.com/vs/runme.htm
To rip from DVDs, we use Easy DVD Rip. It has 30 day free trial too. Then it costs about $35 (although we don“t remember buying it)
http://www.homedvdcopy.com/easydvdrip/features.htm
It takes just a few minutes to rip individual scenes from DVDs; we uploaded all episodes from both series onto our so that we don't have to hunt through the DVD for the scene we need and then upload it. That takes several hours, but you can do it all in one fell swoop and still use your computer for other things while you're doing it.
One thing to keep in mind with vididng too is that while it's rare (thankfully) for people to steal whole passages from your fic, a lot of people think nothing of stealing entire sequences and using it for their own, or just uploading it to YouTube without asking (that just happened to me.)
A lot of vidders use a watermark (there's another name for it but I can't remember what) that shows in the bottom corner of their vids, but I haven't gotten that fancy as I'm not a terribly visual person and vidding is just a fun diversion for me rather than a true fannish creative exercise. There's info on that at
Good luck and I can't wait to see your vids!!!

Oh wonderful! I've heard of that program and it seems like quite a reasonable price. I'll def look into getting that.
I think I'll probably rip the whole lot so I've got it all. Maybe do it in large chunks. I'd rather do that that fiddle about everytime I need a scene.

I saw that had happened to you. They changed it too, didn't they? Goodness me. Some people.
I'm having a lot of fun so far so I'll probably get the Ulead program and see how it goes from there. Come on, payday!! I'm very excited! Hee!
Thank you for all you help!! ~huggles~
