One ofthe best series I have EVER read in ANY fandom was in HP. The author took some of the common cliches (which actually kept me from reading it for months because of that fact) and reworked them into a story that rises above the canon in a fantastic adn almost unbelievable way.
She takes the cliches we all have grown to be annoyed with and makes them work like none other. And she goes where Rowling doesn't - this is a WAR. Battles, guerilla tactics, torture, death - it has it all. And some of the best plot and characterization found anywhere.
It's HUUUUUUGE as well - all seven books rewritten.
And the cliches are: Slytherin Harry, Harry/Draco, superpowered Harry, Snape as mentor/father, Harry has a brother who is the Boy Who Lived, his parents are alive and maipulative!Dumbledore. It works.
oh hells yeah!
