Wow, thank you so much for your lovely and thorough feedback! YAY!!!
And I love Xander in this, too. He's got a bit of struggle between his Scoobie loyalties and his love of Spike, too, but he's young and it's all much simpler to him right now.
That's exactly right. Xander isn't thinking on a completely adult level and it's one of the reasons that I set this in season one. He's not nesassarily thinking with just his brain and he's sure he's got a handle on things. He sees the danger, but he also sees the danger between Buffy and Angel, but they're okay, right?
And Angel ... gods, you make Angel being *reasonable* in his dealings with Spike actually believable.
I really want to stay away from Angel-bashing in this fic. I actually really like him, but putting him up against Spike is always going to cause problems. Maybe Spike is just as bad, but Angel was just so rotten to him and very untrusting. I want to find a nice balance between them because I'm pretty sure that Angel's presence will be significant in future parts so I'd rather build a believable relationship from the start.
At this point, I'm looking forward to seeing more of Giles and the girls - except that it's gonna make things so much more complicated for Xander and Spike. Especially when they (inevitably?) find out about Xander and Spike.
There's going to be lots more scoobie interaction in this fic, especially as I'm not even a third of the way through. Things will get very complicated, althought honestly? Even I'm not sure exactly how it turns out. I have some serious thinking to do! LOL!
And, as someone above pointed out, the flawed but not (human) *monsters* depiction of the Harris's (Harrises?) is a refreshing change from all the Master Level Abusive Parents depictions out there.
I do like most of the abusive!parents fics; they're fun, in a twisted sort of way. but I want to show something different, the shades of gray, basically.
And then there's Spike's "take on the Master" plan. *eek* On the one hand, go him for being proactive. On the other hand, by himself? Against the whole lair or Court or gang or whatever they're calling it these days?! Not so smart. Will there be joining of forces? I'd feel much better if Spike had backup. *worries*
You know Spike. He'll rush headlong into it. I'm not saying any more than that ;o) Hee!
I think 23 is going to be a long-time favorite, the sweetness between Xander and Spike being part of it, but the I Spy game was just brilliant. "Angel's chair" - hee!!!
LOL! I have no idea which part of my weird brain that came from. I just love the thought of Spike and Xander being the children annoying Angel. One of the things I want to acheive in this fic is to bring Spike to Xander's level, rather than the other way around, making Xander grow up too soon.
And of course there's always the "human monsters" creeping around, rapists and pederasts and murderers. Though that's a slippery slope, because where does one draw the limit
Exactly. Slippery slope indeed. I don't think Xander will comepletely approve of that ;o)
Thanks again for your thoughts and for taking the time to let me know.
