Oh, wow, this was so sweet! It made me all warm and fuzzy inside! I absolutely melted into an incoherent puddle of goo at this:
John walked backwards until he struck the door, his arm automatically coming up to hit the control panel. He looked content. “Happy birthday to me.”
Seriously, this was awesome, and it's going in my memories!
