Check out THIS Lost theory (Spoilers up to the end of S2) comparing events to Star Wars. It's so damn funny. And the final conclusion? Bwahahahaha!!!
Actually now I don't feel so bad about my own Buffy theory. The DHARMA Initiative? Secret Government facility? Experiments? The Initiative? Yeah? Still with me? K. The Others? Hostiles? Hostile 17? Spike? Vampires? Secret plans to block out the sun using magnets and polar bears?
Seriously though, I said, right from the start, that it was all about the magnets. Magnets brought the plane down! AND, watch this space, because I'm convinced that at some point the giant magnet brought down an alien space craft which housed the black smoke which is, itself, an alien entity.
I know I'm right.

I've said that the whole thing is a government experiment. Somehow the island is able to harness the imaginative energy of children. Walt read the comic with a polar bear in it and then one showed up on the island. Maybe it's the alien doing it.
